Fairytale Fights: this is not Shrek but Hoodwinked with gore

Fairytale Fights has already reached 700,000+ downloads, yes you read it, that is more than Pop Idol iTunes download, and here’s why. Instead of the dubious crap that you will hear on the radio with some half wit nattering about being love struck, with a song written by four nitwits in a basement, you have the genius of cute characters massacring each other. Yes dear readers it’s true, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, your obligatory Gnome (no, not David) and The Emperor all make playable characters. But here’s the twist, Little Red will slice and dice and turn the enemy into a fine sets of steaks!

This game managed to mix Tim Burton, a low resolution version of Shrek with Hoodwinked and a brutally violent video nasty, you have Fairy Tale Nights, and by the looks like it, if Quentin Tarrantino made a fairy tale, it would be like this.

Now for the technical bit! Fairytale utilizes the Unreal 3 engine, which, although is getting little old in gaming terms, it still holds it own. It’s producing great looking graphics (not photo-real of course) that suit the game, if you are looking for something that looks real, go somewhere else! This is crazy Fairytale Fights, not some glorious love story in which a Prince saves his Princess and they all live happily ever after in some big castle made of ham. Notably too is that Fairytale Fights has a “Volumetric Liquid System” which means basically, lots of blood going everywhere and doing everything, as well as a “Dynamic Slicing Technology”, which is greatly nicknamed “SALAMI VIOLENCE!” This means that players can slice and dice to their content creating a great explosion of guts, limbs, blood and general madness. Plus, if you use the aptly named “Gory Attack” mode, then you can watch whatever crisis you create in close up in a PnP window. With the multiplayer function you can create more madness and --- well come on--- cutesy, disturbing character design to wet your appetite check out Hansel and Gretel on the website to get a taste.

Fairytale Fights has been released here in Europe for the XB360 and PS3, and holding a respectable RRP, this game proves to be such fun, it’s not going to be complicated, and it won’t be Mass Effect so I can imagine that many gaming fanboy monkeys might miss the point, but hey, I just want the PC release.
